Columbia Power and the community celebrate Earth Day with a bloom

Castlegar, B.C. – Columbia Power, various community partners and the public celebrated Earth Day with activities in Castlegar on Tuesday, April 22.

The rainy weather didn’t stop the community from visiting Kinsmen Park, downtown Castlegar, to learn about hands-on ways to take action to protect the environment, locally and globally.

“We would like to thank all of our partners and the community for making our first Earth Day community event a success,” said Krista Watts, Environmental Manager at Columbia Power Corporation. “We’re hopeful that the Earth Day activities will encourage people to take action to benefit the environment on Earth Day and every day.”

The festivities at the park included interactive and informative displays for children and adults, educational and fun activities, eco and live plant giveaways, and a free BBQ lunch.

Additionally, Columbia Power, in partnership with Pacific Regeneration Technologies Inc. (PRT), distributed tree seedlings and provided an Earth Day presentation to Kinnaird Elementary and Castlegar Primary students. The students took the trees home to plant and will watch them grow.

Columbia Power takes pride in a culture of corporate sustainability with initiatives to encourage awareness and opportunities for community engagement. We are actively involved with stakeholders on environmental issues associated with our projects and support local environmental groups and initiatives.
