Safety Excellence

A Commitment to Health + Safety Excellence

Columbia Power is committed to health and safety. Our goal is to ensure every Columbia Power employee and worker at Columbia Power managed projects and offices returns home from work safely at the end of each day. The construction, operation and maintenance of the Columbia Power projects are conducted in a manner to protect the health and safety of employees, workers, contractors and members of the public.

The Health & Safety Policy is a driver for how Columbia Power manages health & safety. The Environmental, Health & Safety Management System provides a documented system to guide our ongoing management of environmental and health & safety risks, provides a basis for due diligence, and allows us to achieve continual improvement. The Environmental, Health & Safety Management System is audited annually by a third party auditor to ensure the system is consistent with ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 international standards.

Columbia Power is governed by and adheres to Work Safe BC (WSBC), BC Safety Authority and Health Canada guidelines.

To ensure safety is at the forefront, Columbia Power employs a full-time Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certified safety professional. Separate weekly safety meetings are also held with the Operations and Capital Projects teams. All Columbia Power’s Prime Contractors are Work Safe BC Certificate of Recognition (WSBC COR) certified which is earned by a successful implementation of a safety management system and by meeting a set of audit standards.

At Columbia Power, we also have a Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) Committee made up of management and staff members who provide monthly safety checks with all employees and participate in formal bi-monthly meetings to ensure all safety precautions are being taken and any issues are addressed in a timely manner.
